One of the year’s best films is playing in Hamilton for a short time

Hamilton cinephiles are in for a special treat, as one of the year’s best and most acclaimed films is playing in the city for a very short limited engagement.

That film is Parasite, the latest by South Korean director Bong Joon-ho (Okja, Snowpiercer, The Host) which is currently screening at Hamilton’s newly renovated Playhouse Cinema from November 1st to 14th.

A darkly comedic thriller that energetically tackles timely themes such as social and economic class, Parasite has already garnered worldwide recognition with wildly successful premieres this year at the Toronto Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival, where Parasite was awarded the prestigious Palme d’Or.

The film, which follows the intense dynamics and personal intersections between a poor Korean family and a rich neighbouring family, has been praised for its deft balance of black humour and intensely cinematic drama, as well as its endlessly riveting stream of twists and turns. Fans of Bong Joon-ho’s past films are pretty much certain to fall in love with what many consider to be his best work to date.

Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite screens daily at Hamilton’s Playhouse Cinema (177 Sherman Avenue North) until November 14th. Tickets are available on their website.
