This new podcast is all about the arts and artists of Hamilton

It’s no secret that Hamilton has a rich and robust arts & culture scene. But do you know much about the artists behind that performance piece you saw at Art Crawl, or that painting that riveted you in one of the galleries on James North?
Well, a brand new Hamilton-based podcast has arrived to dive in on the untold stories of local artists working in a wide array of creative disciplines.
The Why Art? Podcast, created and hosted by Hamilton theatre artists Rose Hopkins and Laura Welch, is launching starting today, June 11th, with new episodes dropping on all streaming platforms every day between now and June 18th as part of Hamilton Arts Week.
The postcast features interviews with an exciting mix of local creators as they dive in on their process and have some deep chats about why they do art and why art matters in Hamilton and beyond.
According to Hopkins and Welch, getting to spotlight the experiences of artists from a variety of disciplines was a crucial part of the podcast.
“As a theatre artist in Hamilton, I’ve felt kind of siloed into my discipline, but I’ve always felt like there could be so much opportunity if I started pushing the boundaries of what I do and who I do it with,” says Hopkins.
“This was an amazing opportunity to connect with other arts communities, not just for myself and Laura but for listeners of the podcast as well.”
So who can Hamiltonians expect to hear from on the podcast?
The first episode, dropping today, features a discussion with dancer and choreographer Mayumi Lashbrook. From there, the podcast will be releasing awesome interviews with locals including theatre artist Rebekka Gondosch, visual artist Jody Joseph, poet John Terpstra, and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra’s music director Gemma New.
