Hamilton artist’s first solo exhibition presented in Toronto art gallery

Hamilton visual artist Nathan Eugene Carson’s work is being displayed at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto from September 26th of 2020 to January 2021.

Carson’s series Negro (2015), Shine On (2016), and Cut from the same cloth (2020) are all on display at the downtown gallery as part of his first major institutional solo exhibition.

The exhibition presents interrelated paintings and mixed media works on paper. Carson’s work is known for figurative exploration of hybrid creatures, animals, and human figures. Many of Carson’s subjects are shown from narratives that link themes of Black identity and history, personal memories, and charged symbolism.

His newest series shows the rekindling of lost relationships while searching for personal connections amid the tapestry of global events. It also moves into asking questions about human togetherness.

Carson lives and works in Hamilton and had work featured in numerous collective exhibitions in the city and Toronto. Many of his works have been shown at exhibitions at the Oswald Gallery in Hamilton with his most recent display being May You Always See the Light in 2017.

The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto is located at the Harbourfront Centre and has been showing some of the leading Canadian talent in contemporary art for over 30 years.
