New movie shot in Hamilton premieres at 2020 Toronto International Film Festival

Hamilton is going to be represented in a brand new feature-length documentary shown on one of the most prestigious film festival screens in Canada.

Enemies of the State, a documentary about an American family hiding away in Canada when their hacker son is sought by the US government, will be seeing its premiere this event at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

The documentary’s selection at TIFF is a feat even more impressive given the overall reduction of films curated for this year’s festival due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The film will also be eligible for Academy Award consideration.

Enemies of the State was shot here in Hamilton at Digital Canaries, one of a handful of film production facilities situated right here in the city that has played host to countless shoots for film and television of all kinds.

Having this Hamilton-shot film land a slot at TIFF for 2020 points to what an attractive locale the city has become for some really high-profile artists and film productions.

“Hamilton has become one of the most forward thinking and accessible go-to cities for film & TV shows, with a great film office, helpful city council, wonderful architecture, a cultural buzz that’s second to none,” says Digital Canaries CEO Simon Winterson.
