In spite of the continued uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadian Football League (CFL) has nonetheless announced its plans for a 2021 comeback season.
Hamilton gets some strong representation in the season announcement, with the first season game on June 10th, 2021 being a 2019 Grey Cup rematch between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

From there, the season eventually wraps with the 2021 Grey Cup tournament played right here in Hamilton at Tim Hortons Field on November 21st, 2021.
The 2021 season schedule, designed with COVID-19 in mind, focuses more heavily on divisional play compared to previous years in order to limit team travel amid the pandemic.
“We’re looking forward to hosting our comeback season in our stadiums, in front of our fans,” said CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie in a release. “With this schedule, we’re signalling that we’re looking forward with optimism to playing in 2021.”
How this season will work in terms of safe in-person fan engagement remains to be seen. Despite promising news of two heavy-hitting COVID-19 vaccine candidates from Pfizer and Moderna, rollout and distribution of those vaccines on a mass scale isn’t expected to occur until late 2021.
