The holiday season is here and so is the period where many of us have some spare time to sit around and binge movies and TV shows all week.
So, here’s a short list of some movies and TV series that were filmed in Hamilton to binge over the holidays.
Detroit Rock City
This cult classic features legendary rock band KISS as some super fans try to scam their way to one of their concerts. The most noticeable Hamilton location is FirstOntario Concert Hall for most of the live concert footage. It’s available on Amazon Prime Video.
The Shape of Water
Director Guillermo del Toro has praised Hamilton as one of his favourite locations to film, and his film The Shape of Water won the 2018 Academy Award for Best Picture. If you look close, you can see glimpses of Hamilton City Hall, and houses at 179 South MacNab Street and 800 Strathearne Avenue. The film is available on Amazon Prime Video.
X-Men
One of the first X-Men movies from 2000 was filmed all over Ontario with prominent locations including Casa Loma in Toronto and Parkwood in Oshawa. As for Hamilton, you can see Liuna Station in one of the scenes. X-Men is available on Disney+.
Hannibal
The series that focuses on the character Hannibal Lecter from films like Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal rising was also filmed in Hamilton. Most prominently, viewers might be able to see the Scottish Rite Masonic Centre in one of the later seasons. All three seasons are available on Netflix.
The Handmaid’s Tale
Margaret Atwood’s novel adaptation is one of the most popular series to be filmed in the city. If you have spent some time walking around looking for film crews over the last few years, it’s safe to say that it’s probably the cast and crew of The Handmaid’s Tale. One specific location that can be seen is a house located at 105 Aberdeen Avenue. This series is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

The Umbrella Academy
The series based on the graphic novel series written by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has transformed parts of Hamilton to portray decades that are relevant to the show. They have filmed all over Hamilton with more notable locations including Gore Park, Ottawa Street, and the International Village. It’s available on Netflix.
Spotlight
Spotlight is biographical drama about how journalist at The Boston Globe exposed child abuse among Roman Catholic priests in the early 2000s. The film won Best Picture at the 2015 Academy Awards. Some Hamilton locations you might notice are a house at 51 Aberdeen Avenue and Prince’s Square outside City Hall. The film is available on Netflix.
The Christmas Chronicles
Hamilton is briefly in this Christmas film about how two children tried to catch Santa Claus on film only ending with some holiday magic. The movie was mostly filmed in Toronto, but downtown Hamilton can be spotted at the beginning for a brief few minutes. You can watch it on Netflix.
The Big Hit
This is 90s nostalgia gold for those looking to see shots of Hamilton from a couple of decades ago. The action movie starring Mark Wahlberg was shot all over Hamilton including some spots in Stoney Creek. You can see it on Amazon Prime Video.
The Long Kiss Goodnight
Samuel L. Jackson stars in this 90s action-thriller about trying to figure out the true identity of a woman with amnesia. This is more nostalgia for some images of Hamilton while enjoying the action movie cheese. Liuna Station can be seen in this film. You can watch it on Amazon Prime Video.
