Guillermo del Toro absolutely loves Hamilton.
The Academy Award-winning film director has repeatedly sung the city’s praises and expressed his love for the Hammer’s food and cultural scenes; and that love is evident in the fact that del Toro keeps coming back to shoot projects in town.

Following up Hamilton-shot films like Crimson Peak, which saw pieces filmed at Dundurn Castle; and The Shape of Water, which featured numerous Hamilton locales and won the Oscar for Best Picture – del Toro has returned to the city for production on a brand new feature film.
The new film is called Nightmare Alley, which is based on a William Lindsay Gresham novel and is also a remake of a 1947 film adaptation.
Directed by del Toro with a screenplay penned by the filmmaker himself alongside Kim Morgan, Nightmare Alley is a thriller featuring an exciting ensemble cast of heavy-hitters including Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Toni Collette, Richard Jenkins, Ron Perlman, and Rooney Mara.
The intriguing film is about a carnival worker, played by Cooper, who manipulates others with his gift of gab. He soon joins forces with a psychiatrist, played by Blanchett, who is “even more dangerous than he is.”
Production officially wrapped this past December, after shooting in numerous notable Hamilton spots like the Cotton Factory, the Hamilton Cemetery, and an alley off of Rebecca Street in the lower city.
Nightmare Alley is scheduled for release on December 3rd, 2021.
