Hamilton Fringe Festival is back with an exciting lineup for 2021

Get ready, Hamilton: the city’s premier festival of live performance is back for 2021 with an incredible lineup of theatre, comedy, music, dance, and much, much more.

The Hamilton Fringe Festival – which has been a summer mainstay since its inception in 2003 – had to pivot to a largely digital format for its 2020 year amid the COVID-19 pandemic’s impacts on live performance.

But from that pivot came exciting new innovations, including interactive digital art experiences as well as ‘Skip the Glitches,’ a selection of bare-bones live performances that came right to people’s houses and performed on their front lawns and driveways at a safe distance.

For 2021, the Hamilton Fringe will be a hybrid event, with a mix of digital experiences as well as live performances presented in COVID-safe ways.

“This summer, the Hamilton Fringe Festival will share the biggest offering of unabashed and unjuried theatre produced right here in Hamilton,” reads a release from the festival.

“Offered online or live-at-a-distance, shows range from silly, zany, intimate, scary, friendly, to avant-garde and everything in between. There will be something for everyone in the family––kids, teens, and adults in every genre.”

So what’s on offer for this year’s Fringe? Firstly, there’s Theatre on Demand: full-length Fringe plays, including family-friendly offerings, that have been recorded live onstage and will be available to stream on-demand throughout the entirety of the festival.

Then, there are the Digital Exclusives, which will be offered virtually for streaming on-demand and feature theatre experiences that aren’t captured in traditional performance venues.

Finally, there’s the return of Skip the Glitches, which features a ‘theatrical curbside delivery’ by bringing live, in-person theatre to your front lawn or driveway to be performed at a safe distance outdoors.

Locals have over 30 live and digital theatre experiences to choose from, all offered with a range of accessible ticket options that let you check out some exciting new theatre on any budget.

The Hamilton Fringe will also be hosting a Fringe Club pending COVID-19 regulations, with a licensed outdoor patio at the Bridgeworks Event Space at 125 Barton Street West.
