First trailer drops for Nightmare Alley remake filmed in Hamilton

The first teaser trailer just dropped for an upcoming film starring Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett that was partially shot here in Hamilton last year.

Nightmare Alley, a thriller adapted from the 1946 William Lindsay Gresham novel of the same title, has been helmed by Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro, who has often sung the praises of Hamilton and shot other notable projects in town including Crimson Peak, filmed at Dundurn Castle; and The Shape of Water, which won the Oscar for Best Picture.

The new film also stars Hollywood heavyweights like Willem Dafoe, Toni Collette, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, and Ron Perlman and follows the character Stan Carlisle, a carny and con man who partners with Lilith Ritter, a psychiatrist who is “even more dangerous than he is.”

The new teaser trailer features plenty of that grandiose Guillermo del Toro flair and offers up heaps of intrigue while keeping the film’s plot virtually under wraps.

Production on Nightmare Alley initially began in Toronto in January 2020 just before the COVID-19 pandemic brought things to a screeching halt.

Once production was able to resume with health & safety protocols in place, multiple scenes were also shot here in Hamilton at recognizable locales like the Cotton Factory, the Hamilton Cemetery, and an alley off of Rebecca Street.

Check out the teaser trailer below and see if you can catch any first glimpses of the Hammer!
