New Vision United Church to undergo major renovations for upcoming Music Hall

Hamilton’s music fans will be happy to learn that a music hall comparable to Toronto’s Massey Hall or Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium is in the works at New Vision United Church.

Currently known simply as “The Music Hall,” the heritage auditorium will be located at 24 Main St. W, formerly Centenary Church. The state-of-the-art facility will hold 1,000 occupants and bring a much-needed, mid-sized venue to Hamilton’s downtown core.

Before the pandemic, Sonic Unyon and SUPERCRAWL held a few “proof of concept” concerts at The Music Hall with headliners such as Terra Lightfoot, Dan Mangan, and Jeff Tweedy.

Once the renovations are complete, the 1868 heritage-designated landmark will feature a large suite of gender neutral washrooms, safety enhancements to the balcony area, improved accessibility features, and significant improvements to ventilation and air conditioning.

New Vision plans for The Music Hall to have long-term equity, inclusivity, and diversity impacts. In fact, Hamilton’s first gay marriage was celebrated in New Vision and soon after they became an LGBTQ+ affirming church.

More recently, the New Vision United Church has served as a safe space for anti-racism and disability activists and homeless people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
