Weekend events in Hamilton March 23-24, 2019

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Look no further. We’ve found a wide range of events in and around Hamilton for all ages and interests to enjoy.

Here’s what’s happening in the city this weekend.

Seed Starting Workshop

When: Saturday March 23, 2019 from 2 – 4 pm
Where: 98 Vine Street
Admission: $12 for adults, $5 for children, available online

Join Katie and Rebecca from Garddwest to learn about a variety of organic, heirloom, and vegetable seeds for the upcoming spring season!

Workshop participants will leave with at least 15 seedlings and can select their vegetables, edible flowers, and beneficial herbs from 50+ options.

This Saturday’s event is child-friendly and will focus particularly on seeds that are large, easy to handle/plant and that grow quickly, easily and sturdily for small hands to tend.

Waterdown Comedy Fest

When: Saturday March 23, 2019 at 7 pm and 9 pm
Where: Waterdown Memorial Hall
Admission: $20

The Waterdown Lions Club wants to invite you to the 2019 Waterdown Comedy Fest.

The festival features two shows, three wacky comedians and plenty of laughs. While this is an all ages event, some acts include strong language and minors are to be accompanied by adults. All proceeds from the festival will go toward support local and Lions International projects.

Downtown Hamilton Ghost Walk

When: Saturday March 23, 2019 at 8 pm
Where: Royal Connaught Courtyard
Admission: $13.27, available online

Hamilton Ghost Walks are back at it again to show off the dark and interesting history of a truly haunted city!

Guests will partake in a guided tour in Hamilton’s core, stopping at historic buildings such as the Royal Connaught, Right House, Hamilton Place Theatre, and the Pigott Building. Along the way, guests will learn about Hamilton’s infamous ghosts, gremlins in the bell tower of St. Paul’s, and the city’s connection to a notorious killer. This tour is for entertainment purposes only.

90’s Rager

When: Saturday March 23, 2019 at 10 pm
Where: Absinthe
Admission: $5, available online

Grab your Nerf gun and Pogs and prepare for Absinthe’s monthly 90’s Rager!

Take Cover will be playing your favourite 90’s hits all night long, plus DJ Party Jesus will be spinning the freshest tunes this side of Napster. Don’t feel like dancing? As always, 90’s Rager will also feature a SEGA corner with arcade games!

Spiders Alive!

When: Saturday March 23, 2019 and Sunday March 24, 2019 from 10 am – 5 pm
Where: Royal Botanical Gardens
Admission: $10-18

In Spiders Alive!, visitors can explore spider anatomy and evolutionary history, learn about their signature traits, and be surprised by little-known defence mechanisms.

In addition to the live spiders representing approximately 17 species, the exhibition includes larger-than-life models of spiders, a climbable spider model, and a 100-million-year-old fossil of a spider in limestone.

Ponies & Puppies: Kidney CARE Schooling Show

When: Sunday March 24, 2019 at 8 am
Where: MJM Equestrian Centre
Admission: Free

The Kidney CARE network is inviting all horse and dog lovers to join them at this year’s Ponies and Puppies fundraising show!

The show features fun obstacle courses for puppies, ponies, and horses, as well as flat and jumping classes for horses of all disciplines and levels. The show will also include a bake sale, silent auction, face painting and more. Please wear purple to show your support for Kidney CARE Network International.

HeritageCon XIII

When: Sunday March 24, 2019 from 9 am – 4 pm
Where: Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum
Admission: $8 for children, $12 for adults

HeritageCon is Canada’s greatest plastic scale model contest and sale. Browse vendor tables, purchase new collectables and compete to see who’s models are the best.

Contest categories include Aircraft, Automotive, Ships, Figures, Space, Collections as well as Intermediate, Junior and Bantom entries.

Spring Crafters Marketplace

When: Sunday March 24, 2019 from 10 am – 3 pm
Where: St. Nicolas Church
Admission: Free

Spring has officially sprung, Hamilton! What better way to celebrate the new season than finding new ways to decorate your home?

At the Spring Crafters Market, you’ll be sure to find something interesting to add to your collection. This year’s market will feature 50 different vendors, crafters and artisans from all across the Hamilton area.

Maple Syrup Festival

When: Sunday March 24, 2019 from 10 am – 4 pm
Where: Westfield Heritage Village
Admission: $6.50-$12

Discover one of Canada’s most time-honoured and tasty traditions this weekend at Westfield Heritage Village.

See demonstrations of traditional techniques used in early Ontario to produce maple syrup. After, take a picturesque walk to Westfield’s sugar bush where you can visit the sugar shack and learn about (and taste!) some of Westfield’s very own maple syrup.

Kubrick at The Playhouse

When: Sunday March 24, 2019 at 8:30 pm
Where: Playhouse Cinema
Admission: $9-$13, available online

Join the folks over at Playhouse Cinema in celebrating one of cinema’s greatest masters, Stanley Kubrick.

This on-going retrospective will take a deep dive into Stanley’s celebrated works. This Sunday’s screening will be 1980’s horror classic The Shining.
