“Mary’s Wedding” Returns to Hamilton

After its successful run in the fall, Mary’s Wedding, the exquisite play by Canadian playwright, Stephen Massicotte, returns this spring to the HARRRP. Jointly produced by Rook’s Theatre and Flat Earth Global, this is a limited engagement production not to be missed.

“There was such a great response in the fall. We felt like there was an opportunity to share it with a wider audience and to continue to explore the story,” said Stephanie Hope Lawlor, who portrays Mary. “We are so thrilled to be remounting it.”

Praised by the Hamilton Spectator’s Gary Smith as “requisite viewing for anyone who craves theatre beyond the ordinary”, this production asks the audience to give themselves up to the story, to be carried away, and to be transformed in the process.

On the night of her wedding, Mary, played by the transformative Stephanie Hope Lawlor, dreams of meeting Charlie, played by the equally captivating Michael Rode. As the relationship between the two characters grows, so too do the challenges that lay in their path; It is 1914 and war is imminent. The production takes place in the nave of the old St. Peter’s church, now home to Hamilton Association for Residential and Recreational Redevelopment Programs (HARRRP).  The evocative space lends a dreamlike quality to the piece and helps transport the audience into Mary’s memories. Simply lit by only a handful of lights and many candles, this production leans on the talents of the actors and the director, Luke Brown, to tell this beautiful story of love, loss and the heart’s journey through it all.

Mary’s Wedding returns for a limited engagement May 9, 10, 11 and May 16, 17, 18, 2019 at 8:00pm at the HARRRP, 705 Main Street East, Hamilton. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Bruha.com ($25) or at the door ($30).
