Here’s what’s happening in the city this weekend.

Climb for Cancer

When: Saturday May 4, 2019 from 9 am – 4 pm
Where: Tim Horton’s Field
Admission: $40, register online

Step up the the fight against cancer with this year’s Climb for Cancer.

Climb for Cancer is an annual event that brings members of the community and surrounding areas together in order to #StepInFront of Cancer. The climb is designed for all levels and abilities and is focused on inclusivity and a shared contribution structure.

Veggie Fest

When: Saturday May 4, 2019 from 10 am – 6 pm
Where: Ancaster Fairgrounds
Admission: Free

Living a balanced lifestyle and want to learn more about food that is vegetarian friendly? Enter Veggie Fest Hamilton. Veggie Fest is a food festival dedicated to Hamilton’s vegetarian, vegan, and raw food community.

This year’s event includes incredible speakers, a plethora of exhibitors, and all day yoga classes. Between learning from the speakers, eating all the veggie goodness, and taking a free yoga class, Veggie Fest Hamilton is good for your body, mind, and soul.

Doors Open Hamilton

When: Saturday May 4, 2019 and Sunday May 5, 2019 from 10 am – 4 pm
Where: Various locations
Admission: Free

Do you love learning about your community? Have you ever walked by beautiful, historic buildings in the city and wondered what they were like inside? Doors Open Hamilton is here to show you Hamilton’s oldest, most unique and ever-changing spaces.

There are 54 different buildings participating this year, all with the purpose of educating the community on Hamilton spaces, landscapes, and how things have evolved over the years. Many of the buildings included in this year’s Doors Open are rarely open to the public.

Sew Hungry

When: Saturday May 4, 2019 from 11 am – 8 pm
Where: Ottawa Street North
Admission: Free

Feeling hungry? Sew Hungry is an annual restaurant and food truck rally down on Ottawa Street North. Sew Hungry is the best way to explore Hamilton’s vast culinary scene and really wow your taste buds.

The event is both kid and adult friendly — there will be a kids’ zone full of fun activities for the youngsters, and adults can kick back and relax in the beer garden. There will live music going on throughout the day for all to enjoy.

The event is free to enter, but make sure to bring your wallet (especially cash!) to buy all the food you crave.

15th Annual Festival of South Asia

When: Saturday May 4, 2019 from 6 – 9 pm
Where: Lincoln Alexander Centre
Admission: Free

Celebrate South Asian Heritage Month this weekend at the 15th annual Festival of South Asia.

The festival will feature enjoy, food and dancing from across various South Asian countries. Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated; please bring one non-perishable food items per person.

Stars on Ice

When: Saturday May 4, 2019 at 7:30 pm
Where: FirstOntario Centre
Admission: $25-$80, available online

Canada’s world-class skaters are coming to Hamilton for the Stars on Ice tour. This tour celebrates both Olympic medalists to world champions.

The Stars on Ice roster is phenomenal, presenting famous skaters such as Kurt Browning, Kaetlyn Osmond, and Patrick Chan. These skaters are in a league of their own, winning medal after medal, showing the world that Canada is a powerhouse in ice dancing and figure skating.

Drag Wars: Attack of the Queens

When: Saturday May 4, 2019 at 10 pm
Where: Absinthe
Admission: $10, available online

This coming Star Wars Day, Adam and Steve are proud to present episode 2 of Hamilton’s first and only drag battle competition, Drag Wars.

Drag Wars is a three-round drag show that allows up and coming drag queens to showcase their charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent while battling it out for a grand prize and a chance to open at a future Adam and Steve show.

There’s $1000 in cash prizes for the queens and plenty of twists and turns to keep you gagged and entertained the entire night!

Spring Bump, Baby and Toddler Marketplace

When: Saturday May 4, 2019 and Sunday May 5, 2019 from 9 am – 3 pm
Where: Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmens
Admission: $10, 16 and under free

It takes a village to raise a child, and now is your chance to meet your village face-to-face.

The Bump, Baby and Toddler Marketplace highlights the finest local baby businesses, parenting products, prenatal, baby and toddler accessories, services and trends. Experts from parenting websites, bloggers, publications, and other businesses will be available to speak to and lend advice.

Virtual Reality Experience – BBC 1943 Berlin Blitz

When: Saturday May 4, 2019 and Sunday May 5, 2019 from 9 am – 5 pm
Where: Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum
Admission: Free with regular admission ($10-$15)

The BBC has created a masterfully animated Virtual Reality Experience using Vaughan-Thomas’ original war recordings, which vividly capture the danger of the bombing raid.

This unique cinematic experience transports visitors inside the bomber as the crew endures endless flak and a night fighter attack in their journey to the heart of Nazi-occupied Europe.

Presented in immersive Virtual Reality, this powerful experience is the closest that one can get to truly experiencing the bravery demonstrated by Bomber Command. The 14-minute experience is available for those aged 13 and up on a first come, first serve basis.

Punk Rock Flea Market

When: Sunday May 5, 2019 from 12 – 6 pm
Where: Absinthe
Admission: Free

Love flea markets but can’t find anything that fits your alternative style? Hamilton’s own Absinthe is here to fill the void with their very own punk rock flea market. With records, apparel, home décor, collectables and so much more, you’ll be sure to find something to fall in love with.

While you shop, DJ Broken Mohawk will be spinning some great tunes. There’ll be food, raffles, grab bags, and a Kali Ma yoga session.

Hammer City Samba

When: Sunday May 5, 2019 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Where: The Sky Dragon Centre Studio
Admission: Free

Come learn to play some funky beats with Hammer City Samba.

Hammer City Samba is a community percussion band; no experience is necessary and instruments are provided. All ages are welcome.
