Rogers Hometown Hockey set to return to Hamilton in January

It’s an exciting time for hockey fans in Hamilton, as it has been announced that the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour will be coming to Hamilton this winter when the Winnipeg Jets play the Chicago Blackhawks on January 19th.

Rogers Hometown Hockey has been around for six seasons and quickly become a staple of the NHL season in Canada. The live broadcast is held a few times per year in a number of different host cities across the country, which are selected prior to the season.

The goal of the festival is to celebrate local hockey stars and stories, as well as the brightest stars in hockey worldwide and the special role that local hockey communities play in creating the game’s biggest talents.

The free event runs for a full, fun-filled weekend and features food, concerts, games, and other interactive family-friendly activities. The main activity is an outdoor viewing party of an NHL game, complete with a live national broadcast of the festivities on Sportsnet, hosted on-site by Ron MacLean and Tara Slone.

In total, the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour will make 25 stops this season, celebrating local hockey communities all over the nation and aiming to unify Canadians from coast-to-coast over our national passion for the game.

Like many of the other cities the tour will visit, Hamilton often goes under the radar as a hockey city but has produced some star players such as Hockey Hall of Fame member Dave Andreychuk, who is 29th all time in NHL scoring. Hamilton has also produced a number of active hockey stars such as Hamilton locals Sarah and Darnell Nurse.

The festival gives Hamilton an enormous chance to showcase and celebrate its rich history and vibrant community – especially its vibrant hockey community – under a national spotlight.

Rogers Hometown Hockey previously came to Hamilton during the 2016-17 season, and returns at a time when Hamilton’s local OHL team, the Bulldogs are making waves both on and off the ice with a recent OHL championship in 2018, a star NHL prospect in Arthur Kaliyev, and an ongoing arena proposal.
