Weekend events in Hamilton September 7-8, 2019

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Look no further. We’ve found a wide range of events in and around Hamilton for all ages and interests to enjoy.

Here’s what’s happening in the city this weekend.

Christie Antique and Vintage Show

When: Saturday September 7, 2019 from 10 am – 5 pm
Where: Christie Lake Conservation Area
Admission: Free

This is Canada’s favourite antique & vintage show with hundreds of dealers and almost 10 acres of treasures to be discovered. With vendors often specializing in something specific, you’ll find china, jewellery, golf items, tins, scientific instruments, folk art, postcards, Canadiana, fine art, nostalgia items, furniture, and more. Food vendors on site for a snack or meal. This is a rain or shine event.

Free Hamilton Waterfront Tour

When: Saturday September 7, 2019 at 10 am & Sunday September 8, 2019 at 10 am
Where: Williams Fresh Cafe
Admission: Free

Discover (or rediscover) Hamilton’s quickly changing waterfront on this free walking tour by Tour Guys. Join a local expert guide on a leisurely stroll from William’s Fresh Cafe on the water’s edge through a quaint neighbourhood that was once home to dock workers and labourers and along boardwalks through waterfront parks and piers while learning about the city’s industrial history, prohibition era rum-runners, and how the area is being changed.

The tour will conclude at the HMCS Haida, Canada’s “fightingest warship” which was involved in WWII, Korea, and the Cold War and now a National Heritage Site. After the tour, you are welcome to board and tour the ship on your own (admission is about $4 for adults and free for children) and visit the nearby free museum. The tour lasts 90 minutes.

Baby Goat Yoga

When: Saturday September 7, 2019 from 10 am – 11 am
Where: Triple C Farm @ 500 Carluke Road West, Ancaster
Admission: Free. Register for tickets here.

Spend your Saturday afternoon doing yoga with goats! The goats love interacting with people and will join you on your poses if you let them. Otherwise enjoy the company of the baby goat as they wander around the participants.

Locke Street Family Day

When: Saturday September 7, 2019 from 11 am – 4 pm
Where: Locke Street
Admission: Free

Join the Locke Street churches – Blessings Christian Church, Melrose United, St. Joseph’s and Saint John – as they host Locke Street Family Day. Each church is hosting an array of activities including a bouncy castle, pie and jam sales, live music, face painting, a magician, and lots more!

Other businesses and organizations in the area will be hosting special activities, too. All are welcome, with the event running rain or shine.

 

Free Downtown Hamilton Tour

When: Saturday September 7, 2019 at 3 pm & Sunday September 8, 2019 at 3 pm
Where: Hamilton GO Centre
Admission: Free

Take a walk with a local history expert and native Hamiltonian to hear how the “Aspirational City” of Hamilton rose to greatness on the back of the steel industry, how it later fell into decay, and is now is being hailed as “Toronto’s Brooklyn”. Hear about the big ideas and what became of the efforts to breathe new life into the city—the good, the bad and the ugly.

This tour starts in the lobby of the Hamilton GO Centre and is designed for locals who want to learn more about their city and visitors from “down the road” and abroad who want to know why there’s so much buzz in certain circles about Hamilton. The tour lasts 90 minutes.

Downtown Hamilton Ghost Walk

When: Saturday September 7, 2019 at 8:30 pm
Where: Starts at the Royal Connaught Courtyard
Admission: $14 available for purchase online

Tour the streets and dark alleys, with stops outside the Royal Connaught Hotel, Right House, Pigott Building, Whitehern Mansion, and the connection to the world’s most infamous killer in an iconic alley.
The ghosts and dark history of downtown Hamilton are featured on a tour steeped in pride, tragedy and violence.

Hammer on the Harbour

When: Saturday September 7, 2019 at 8 pm – 11 pm
Where: Pier 8
Admission: $15.75 for students, $17.50 for adults. Purchase tickets online here.

Let loose this weekend with a trip around the bay! The Queen is turned into your go-to party destination for the weekend. Hit the open deck turned dance floor, with our resident DJ turnin’ up the beats.

BA Johnston, Lee Reed, Johnny 2 Fingers & The Deformites

When: Saturday September 7, 2019 at 9 pm
Where: This Ain’t Hollywood
Admission: Price not yet set

Performing live at Hamilton’s infamous This Ain’t Holywood is BA Johnston – a well-known Hamilton comedian-musician – and Lee Reed who’s a Hamilton-based hip hop artist. Johnny 2 Fingers & The Deformites will also be rocking out.

Free Adult Ballet Class

When: Sunday September 8, 2019 at 11 am
Where: Hamilton City Hall
Admission: Free. Pre-registrater by emailing your RSVP info@cnadedu.com

In response to the comments made by Good Morning America host Lara Spencer regarding Prince George taking ballet class in school, Canada’s National Academy of Dance Education is offering a free ballet class at city hall this Sunday for adults of all genders, shapes, and sizes. The Academy offers plenty of resources when it comes to dance training and are bound to put on a fantastic lesson.

Golden Horseshoe Live Steamer Days

When: Sunday September 8, 2019 at 11:30 am
Where: Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology
Admission: Free

Catch a ride on a miniature train and witness Canada’s early industrial revolution during this free event at one of the region’s most fascinating historic sites. Enjoy free admission and a tour of the Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology during your visit.

Housed in a 150-year-old Waterworks, this National Historic Site preserves two 70-ton steam powered water pumping engines, perhaps the oldest surviving Canadian-built engines.

The Roster Spot — Live on location

When: Sunday September 8, 2019 at 12 pm
Where: Shoeless Joe’s on Upper James
Admission: Free

Forge FC vs York9 FC

When: Sunday September 8, 2019 at 1 pm
Where: Tim Hortons Field

Cheer on Hamilton’s very own Forge FC this weekend as they take on York9 FC

Come dressed in orange and support your home team!

The Cove – A Night of Music, Art & Beer

When: Sunday September 8, 2019 at 7 – 9 pm
Where: Grain&Grit Beer Co.
Admission: $18, available for purchase online

Celebrate the changing leaves this Sunday with some music, artwork, and beer at Grain&Grit hosted by Cats Cove Media. Musical acts will include Tim Collins, 12 Mile Island, and Excuse Me. Art vendors include Marla Brown, Evie Atelier, and Gentle Reminders by Littlearthlings. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Don’t miss out on the last grasp of patio season!
