Hamilton’s gritLIT Festival moves its writing workshops online during COVID-19

Writing workshops organized through Hamilton’s gritLIT Literary Festival have moved online while the city remains shut down during the pandemic.

Starting on May 9th and running until June 27th, the writing workshops that are usually in-person learning experiences have turned digital.

Additional tickets are still available for the workshops on the gritLIT Eventbrite page. The events often have a presenter guiding attendees through topics related to writing, editing, and publishing.

The digital workshops series includes Finding the Funny with Terry Fallis, Telling Your Stories with Anne Bokma, Voice in Fiction with Mona Awad, How I Overcame Imposter Syndrome with Jesse Thistle, Writing Non-Fiction with Jenny Heijun Wills, Entering the Story Without Knocking with David Bergen, Writing Disabled Characters with Dorothy Ellen Palmer, and Idea to Publication with Casey Plett.

Tickets that were already purchased before the workshops moved online will still be honoured. Refunds can also be requested up to seven days before the event for those who would prefer not to complete the workshops digitally.

Back in March, the 2020 edition of the gritLIT Festival was cancelled due to COVID-19. The organizers stated that it was a difficult decision but the safety of their audiences, authors, volunteers, and staff is always their top priority.

Cancellation of the festival also resulted in the postponement of the highly anticipated Margaret Atwood event that was originally set to happen at the Playhouse Cinema. The conversation with Atwood about her career will be rescheduled with all tickets sold still being honoured for the new date.
