Hamilton gears up for 12th annual Bike For Mike charity ride

Calling all cyclists: a fun ride for a great cause is happening in Hamilton this week.

Sunday, May 1st marks the 12th annual Bike for Mike event: a fundraiser that connects local cyclists and encourages mental, physical, and social wellbeing while supporting youth programming initiatives in local elementary schools.

The 2022 event launches out of Collective Arts Brewing on Burlington Street, where local bike riders who have pre-registered for the event can ride one of five different routes, either solo or with teams.

The routes to choose from include a 5k family route, a 25km café ride with a pitstop at Dundas’s Café Domestiique, a 50km classic route through Ancaster and Dundas, a 50km HamBur loop, and a 75km joy ride.

New for this year is something called MusicCycle, which encourages participants to turn their bicycle into an instrument that plays live music while riding.

This doesn’t mean tossing a Bluetooth speaker on your handlebars; it literally means playing live music in some way along your ride, whether by attaching an instrument to your bike or having someone play music live on your journey.

Once all of the rides are complete, cyclists return to Collective Arts Brewing for some live music, food, and social time.

This fun, dynamic event takes place on Sunday, May 1st, so check out the Bike for Mike website for more details and to register for a ride!
