If you’re looking for a great spot to try some of the latest and greatest local craft beers and ciders paired with some delicious food, Brux House should be on your list of must visit spots in Hamilton. Located on Locke Street, this restaurant is a gem for supporting local craft brewers, cider-makers, and fresh, local food.
A charming old home reclaimed with a modern meets industrial flair, the main level is open and welcoming, complete with an amazing light up sign that’s hard not to snap a couple photos of while enjoying a cocktail or beer. The upper floor has been converted into a cozy dining space complete with a private room for anyone looking to host a dinner party with some friends.
The rotating beer list has a way of sucking you in and making you become a frequent visitor of Brux; there’s always something new to try. They have anything from a classic Pilsner to a Brett Saison, to Dark Ale, as well as a healthy collection of sour beers, too. Each of the beers are interesting, dynamic, and most of all taste delicious.
If the beer list seems daunting to you, have no fear as the staff are friendly, well informed and more than happy to make you a recommendation based on what you typically drink. If you’re still not sure, they’ll bring you a small sample of what you’re considering to make sure you’ll enjoy your drink.
Like the frequently changing beer list, Chef Fraser Macfarlane and the kitchen are always changing menu items from season to season including some great daily features. I’ve been for lunch and dinner on many occasions, and have to say that no matter what you’re eyeing on the menu, you won’t be disappointed.
The menu always has their staples, including the Brux Burger that has a patty grilled to perfection topped with crispy onion, tomato, lettuce, pickle, pepper jack cheese, and Brux sauce. There’s also the mussels and frites; a healthy portion of mussels that are juicy and fresh, with crispy, salty, double fried French fries to soak up the sauce at the bottom for a delicious infusion of flavour.
One of my favourites is their pork schnitzel; a massive filet of pork crusted and pan-fried served with a caraway spaetzel (pasta) and red cabbage marmalade to cut the richness. It’s delicious and the portion is large. When it arrives at your table, you tell yourself you won’t be able to finish it, but as you take the first few bites it’s hard to put the fork down!
Once you visit Brux, you will return — that much I’m sure. Your curiosity for what might be there next time, combined with the high quality food and drink makes it an experience that never disappoints. So grab a few friends, make a reservation and discover what Brux House has to offer!

Their beer tap list is the best in the city and their food is delicious! My favourites I’ve had so far are the pork schnitzel and whole-fried broccoli. Lots of seating area with two floors and a patio. Staff are always friendly and knowledgeable about the craft beer on tap.
