Grain & Grit Beer Co. has opened their gorgeous new beergarden

When Phase Two of reopening hit and Hamilton’s restaurants, bars, and breweries started rolling out their distanced patios, Grain & Grit Beer Co. held off on jumping right in; not because they didn’t want to do it, but because they wanted to make sure they did it as safely as possible.

Now, Grain & Grit has officially opened its outdoor beergarden as of Thursday July 9th, which takes up the entire parking lot of their Ewen Road brewery in West Hamilton; and from the looks of it, the gorgeous setup was worth the extra wait.

Founded by Joe and Lindsey Mrav, Grain & Grit has cemented themselves as one of Hamilton’s most community-focused craft breweries. On top of making great beer with killer branding, they also regularly host community events, work to make their brewery a safe and welcoming space, and actively support worthy charitable causes.

That’s why their taproom and patio were routinely packed with people pre-pandemic; a practice that was, of course, cut off when the safety risks of COVID-19 began to emerge.

Luckily, as COVID-19 restrictions begin to relax in controlled ways across the city, beloved spots like Grain & Grit can once again welcome locals to hang out on the patio.

That said, there will be some strict safety guidelines in place at Grain & Grit’s physically-distanced beergarden.

Firstly, to cut back on wait times and overcrowding, walk-up guests will not be accepted. Those who want to enjoy the beergarden must make a reservation on Grain & Grit’s website to receive a 90 minute slot for groups of 1 to 4 people, or a 2 hour slot for groups of 6 to 8 people.

Be prepared to mask up too, because Grain & Grit will be strictly enforcing mask-wearing if visitors need to enter the brewery itself to use the washroom. All of the brewery’s team members will be wearing masks and ensuring physical distancing is maintained all times too.

Out of an abundance of caution, Grain & Grit will also be thoroughly sanitizing all chairs and tables between parties, and regularly sanitizing payment terminals and other high-touch areas around the brewery as well.

For those that would rather enjoy Grain & Grit’s fantastic beer at home, the brewery is still offering curb-side pickup and takeout for retail.

While it’s exciting to see so many of Hamilton’s small businesses get a chance to restart, it’s also important to be safe about it. Make sure that, if you visit a spot like Grain & Grit, you’re taking all of the usual COVID precautions including physical distancing, only getting together with members of your 10-person social circle, frequent hand-washing, wearing masks in enclosed public spaces, and staying home if you are feeling unwell.
