Papa Leo’s Restaurant has permanently closed in Hamilton

This one’s a major heartbreaker: one of Hamilton’s best spots for breakfast, lunch, and brunch has announced that it is permanently closing its doors.

Papa Leo’s Restaurant, which has been a staple of the Hamilton Mountain along Concession Street for years, was known for their hearty and wholesome dishes like breakfast platters, sandwiches, soups, and more made from scratch with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.

The restaurant, headed by Leo Santos, was unfailingly popular, regularly seeing lineups of locals out the door waiting for their chance to grab a table in their cozy, homey dining room.

Papa Leo’s has mostly been closed throughout the pandemic, opening only for brief stints to do takeout and delivery; and little did locals know that those fleeting tastes of the restaurant’s delicious food would be their last.

“This chapter has been one that will never be forgotten!” said Papa Leo’s in an announcement on social media on Tuesday. “To all of our customers, you helped make our jobs a tremendous joy. Every day we were able to engage in amazing ways that made all of you feel like family.”

It remains to be seen if Santos will pour his energy into a new restaurant venture in the future, but here’s hoping that Hamilton hasn’t seen the last of his delicious food.
