The 10 Best Nachos in Hamilton for 2018

It’s scary to think of a world without nachos; they’re the perfect sharable dish!

But with the number of restaurants in Hamilton offering nachos, finding the right spot can be a dizzying task. With the help of nacho expert Meg from The Nacho Chronicles, we’ve put together a scrumptious list of what we believe are the absolute best picks in the city.

Here’s our 2018 list for Hamilton’s 10 best nachos.

  Democracy on Locke

Starting off our list is Democracy! This Locke Street favourite brings all of the delicious crunch you crave while keeping things entirely vegan.

Topped with Daiya cheese, tomato, black olives, peppers, scallions and cashew creme, these nachos are full of flavour. If you’re used to having meat or dairy on your nachos, we promise you won’t even miss it on these bad boys.

The nachos at Democracy on Locke are a fresh and lighter alternative to our favourite cheese heavy nachos. If you follow a vegan diet or want to try something new, we highly suggest these nachos.

  One Duke

Looking to enjoy the perfect pub-style nachos but don’t want the loud atmosphere? One Duke has got you covered.

Piled high with cheese, chicken, tomatoes, black olives, jalapeños and green onions,  these are our go-to nachos for quiet nights out on the patio. The chips are perfectly seasoned and we never leave disappointed.

According to the restaurant’s Instagram, they have made improvements to their already superb nachos. While we love the originals, we are so looking forward to checking the new ones out!

  Absinthe Hamilton

Absinthe is new to Hamilton’s food game. Known primarily as a live music venue, Absinthe decided to kick things up a notch this year and start pumping out some seriously good eats.

These are probably the cheesiest nachos in Hamilton. Well layered with cheese, chili, lettuce, jalapeno, sour cream and fresh avocado, we can only assume these nachos are the brainchild of a serious nacho fan.

The next time you’re around King William Street and craving nachos, make sure to check out Absinthe.

Mesa makes the best Mexican cuisine in the city. Always using the freshest ingredients, Mesa makes some killer nachos.

The nachos at Mesa are fully loaded. Their house made chips are topped with the meat of your choice, cheese, lettuce, tomato, cilantro and sour cream. Whether you prefer chicken, beef or pork, Mesa always make sure their meat is well seasoned.

As cheese lovers, we’re happy to report that Mesa’s nachos provide Instagram worthy cheese pulls. Your ultimate boomerang awaits!

  The Brassie Pub

We’re going to be honest: Brassie’s nachos are not for the faint of heart. Round up your friends because their portions are HUGE!

Their nachos are topped with mozzarella, cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, and three types of meat! With beef chili, grilled chicken and steak, it’s a definite party!

Not only do your nachos come with salsa and sour cream, but your table also receives a huge serving of queso. If you’re anything like us, you know that queso makes everything better.

  West Town Bar & Grill

More of a traditionalist? The West Town Bar & Grill has the perfect nachos for you.

These pub nachos are topped with chili, tomatoes, lettuce, green onions and plenty of cheese. They usually come with jalapeños on the side but if you ask nicely they’ll put them on in advance.

What makes these nachos incredible is their ridiculous amount of cheese. Seriously, just keep digging and you’ll find more and more cheese!

  Odds Bar

Whether you’re a fan of Arkells or not, the nachos at Odds Bar are The People’s Champ! They’ve got seven different kinds of nachos to choose from, including vegan, vegetarian and meat lover’s options.

While their El Jose Totcho del Nachos are a close second, the Apollo Creed is our Odds favourite. The chips are covered in a mozzarella and cheddar blend and piled high with spiced chicken skin, Baja roast chicken, pickled red chilies, house ranch, house hot sauce and scallions.

If you’re a nacho aficionado, you’ve got to eat at Odds Bar.

  Work Progress Kitchen

Work Progress Kitchen is another Hamilton spot that’s home to different varieties of nachos. If you’re looking for some more out of the box flavour combinations, definitely give their nachos a whirl.

If you’re looking to have nachos as classic as possible, their chicken nachos are our the go-to. The chips are topped with pico de gallo, cheddar and jack cheese, cilantro and sesame seeds. No chip goes untopped!

We love the cozy atmosphere of Work Progress Kitchen, especially after their recent reno! If you just want to sit back, relax and enjoy your nachos in peace, this is the place!

Gallagher’s is a Hamilton favourite across the board. Great atmosphere, great prices, great food… of course, great nachos. What makes Gallagher’s so special is their wide variety of tortilla chips.

Our favourite kind of tortilla chips to order are the Doritos. That’s right, nachos made with Doritos! Topped with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, olives and jalapenos, these nachos are consistently delicious.

Not a huge fan of Doritos? Don’t worry, Gallagher’s offers about 4 other different types of nachos.

Coming in at number one is Mezcal. As huge fans of their guac and chips, we didn’t think there could be a better shareable plate at Mezcal… and then we tried their nachos.

Mezcal’s nachos are more unique than traditional pub nachos. Their delicious house made chips are topped with jalapeno corn queso, pickled onion, salsa, pomegranate seeds, cotija cheese, guac (not extra!) and cilantro.

If you order their Supreme Nachos instead, definitely add the wild boar.

Chef Manny Ferreira and his talented team at Mezcal are always serving up some of the best flavour profiles in Hamilton. Innovative and delicious, their nachos are the best in Hamilton.
