The 10 Best October Activities Near Hamilton

We’re halfway through October and Halloween is only two short weeks away! When creating this list, we wanted to include the best activities to make sure you enjoy October to the fullest. Let’s celebrate spooky season, embrace those cozy fall vibes and get on out there!

Here’s our 2018 list for the 10 best October activities near Hamilton.

  Flamboro Speedway

Starting off our list is a visit to Flamboro Speedway. Every October, Flamboro Speedway hosts their Halloween Enduro Race – a fun treat for racing fans of all ages.

Come help choose the best Halloween themed decorated car and stay for the demolition derby. See which driver can outwit, outlast and outdrive the competition to take home the first place prize of $5,000.

This year’s Halloween Enduro Race takes place on Saturday, October 20. The pit opens at 9 am, the front gates open at 1 pm and the fun begins at 4 pm. More information on this spooky race is available online.

  Ancaster Pumpkin Walk

Looking for a fall activity that’s great for the little ones? Be sure to check out this season’s Pumpkin Walk at Fieldcote Museum.

Walk a slightly spooky trail through the grounds of Fieldcote Museum and let hand carved pumpkins light the way. This is a great opportunity to let toddlers and parents in on some easy-going Halloween fun.

The third annual Ancaster Pumpkin Walk takes place on Thursday, October 25 from 6 – 8 pm. The event is entirely free, just be sure to bring your wallet to purchase something from the food trucks!

  Beanermunky Chocolate Workshop

Fall is always the season that brings on the sweet tooth. For those who want to move away from pie and try their hand at something new, why not participate in one of Beanermunky’s chocolate workshops?

Beanermunky is known for their handmade, small batch chocolates, made from only the highest quality ingredients and flavourings. They run four different chocolate workshops – one perfect for the kids, one perfect for date night, one perfect for creatives and another fit for chocolate lovers.

If you’re looking to try something new and satisfy your sweet tooth, be sure to check out one of Beanermunky’s workshops.

  Casual Gourmet Cooking Classes

As the weather cools down and the leaves fall to the ground, we often turn to the comfort and warmth of a good, home-cooked meal. What better way to get into the cozy spirit of fall than attending a cooking class?

This month, the Casual Gourmet is hosting two different cooking classes that will arm you with new, delicious recipes to impress your friends this autumn season. The first class will feature warm, comforting vegan meals and the second will show you how to put a new twist on brunch.

Dates and times for these classes vary, but they are well worth checking out. Here’s to trying new and delicious things this October!

  Explore Hamilton’s Trails

Get out and explore what Hamilton has to offer this month by taking a hike through one of our glorious trails. These trails feature some of Hamilton’s best views, from the changing leaves to our city’s incredible selection of waterfalls.

When choosing a trail, rest assured that Hamilton offers trails for all skill sets and abilities. What’s important is that you’re taking the time to enjoy nature and get some fresh air.

While there are plenty of trails across Hamilton, some of our favourites include Bruce Trail, Waterfront Trail and the Escarpment Rail Trail.

  Bizarro’s Haunt

Looking to feel those Halloween vibes? Get spooked this October at Bizarro’s Haunt.

Located on 64-acres of haunted property, Bizarro’s Haunt is home to The Factory of Fear, the Museum of Oddities, Critter Corner, the Candy Crypt and Vendor Alley. Bizarro’s Haunt is most known for The Factory of Fear, a haunted attraction guaranteed to make you scream.

Due to the nature of Bizarro’s Haunt, please be advised that this attraction is recommended for those 13 and older. While there is no actual age restriction, it’s important to note that Bizarro’s Haunt features scares, gore and very graphic scenes.

 Stories in the Stones Tour

Hamilton’s Municipal Cemeteries are like museums – their headstones serve as records of not only our culture but of our societal history. As most of Hamilton’s history lies buried in our cemeteries, the Stories in the Stones tours work to tell these fascinating tales of Hamilton’s past.

Every Saturday, the Hamilton Cemetery hosts a free guided walking tour. These spooky tours are both fun and educational, teaching guests about the War of 1812, the Civil War and other major historical events.

While these tours are a great way to get into the Halloween spirit, please remember that cemeteries are sacred places. When visiting Hamilton Cemetery, please treat your surroundings and the lives of those lost with dignity and respect.

  Hanes Corn Maze

Would your fall season really be complete without checking out a corn maze? If you’re looking for an adventure and some classic fall fun, be sure to visit the Hanes Corn Maze.

The Hanes Corn Maze is a human size puzzle, carved into 20 acres of 12-foot tall walls of cornstalks. Throughout the maze, you’ll find checkpoints, solve puzzles and spin a wheel to win a prize.

This year Hanes Corn Maze has teamed up with the Tim Horton’s Children’s Foundation, donating a portion of every admission to the charity. Not only will this maze be fun for the entire family, but you’ll also be helping an incredible cause.

  Andrew’s Scenic Acres

Looking for a fun way to enjoy nature, pick flowers and take some great photos? Fall is a great time of year to check out Andrew’s Scenic Acres!

Established in 1980, Andrews Scenic Acres Farm and Winery is known for their fresh fruits, vegetables, wine and stunning floral selection. As the years have gone on, Andrews’ Scenic Acres have grown to become one of the most diversified and well-known agri-tourism destinations in Ontario.

The farm’s number one attraction is a wagon ride out to their farm fields where you can pick your own fruits and flowers. As the farm’s produce and flowers are seasonal, you can expect to find plenty of pumpkins and dahlias right now.

While Andrew’s Scenic Acres is located all the way out in Milton, the beauty of this farm is worth making the day-trip out.

  Apple Picking

Coming in at number one is our favourite and most nostalgic fall activity — apple picking. Fun for all ages, this family-friendly activity is a great way to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Our personal favourites are The Apple Orchard Inc, Myers Apple Farm, Carluke Orchards, Bennett’s Apples, and Drummond Farms.

These farms typically boast dozens of varieties of apples and usually varieties of pears, too. There’s nothing quite like spending a crisp autumn afternoon picking fruit right off the branch.

If you’re looking for a fun fall tradition for you and your family, apple picking is an incredible choice.
