Dundas Peak might be getting a 4-foot tall safety fence

The days of those Instagrammable photo ops at the edge of the Dundas Peak may soon be a thing of the past, as Hamilton’s conservation authority is leaning towards building a 4-foot tall decorative fence around the Peak’s perimeter.

One of the region’s most notoriously risky selfie spots, the Dundas Peak is as stunning as it is dangerous.

While many people freely snap their pics without issue, the Peak also sees a regular stream of injuries and even a few documented fatalities after hikers journeyed too close to the Peak’s edge or attempted to scale cliffs and embankments in search of that perfect ‘gram shot.

Firefighters are sent to the Peak for rescue missions on a fairly regular basis, signalling an issue in serious need of addressing.

Of course, while fencing off the edges of the Dundas Peak would undeniably increase the spot’s safety, the move would come at a clear price: tarnishing and somewhat obstructing the Peak’s iconic, picturesque views.

The Hamilton Conservation Authority will put the issue to a vote on March 5th.
