Happy Hourz Pub has permanently closed its doors

A popular pub and karaoke bar in downtown Hamilton has announced that it is bidding farewell to the city’s nightlife scene.

Happy Hourz Pub, which sits at the corner of MacNab North and Vine Street right beside the York Boulevard Parkade, has been a longstanding spot for laidback good times for a full 20 years with its daily karaoke jams.

However, with the devastating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic for many independent businesses in the hospitality industry, Happy Hourz was one of countless establishments throughout Hamilton that was forced to drastically reimagine its infrastructure in order to survive.

Though Happy Hourz made a strong effort to reopen once Stage Three hit Hamilton and tried to introduce numerous new safety measures – including installing plexiglass barriers and shifting to a contactless system for karaoke – the bar ultimately decided to formally close up.

“We cannot safely move forward knowing that our bar calls upon a culture that physically brings each other close together,” said Happy Hourz co-owner Vanessa Marcos in an announcement on social media.

“Our environment calls upon congregating, drinking, laughing and singing that promotes higher risk of COVID-19 spread.”

Though the news is surely sad for fans of the longstanding karaoke bar, Happy Hourz also expressed that they hope to return to Hamilton at some point down the line in a new location when it is once again safe to do so.
