Players Paradise soccer complex sold to cannabis grow-op

Players Paradise, an indoor soccer complex in Stoney Creek has reportedly been sold to a cannabis growing operation despite winter programs already planned for the space.

Tenants in the building were told this past weekend they have to be out of the building by the end of September.

“Obviously shock. Bottom line, it’s a big void to the community, we’ve already started launching winter programs with the intention of being in the facility,” Sam Disanto, an executive of the Saltfleet Stoney Creek soccer club, told CHCH News.

Disanto held an emergency meeting to start planning and preparing for what to do with their current and upcoming programs that are held for roughly 3000 soccer players of all ages.

The club will likely find space in school gyms and other indoor facilities for the winter.

The building was completed in 2010 and has four fields suitable for multiple sports, along with a gym, a bar and a few shops.

One of the shop owners said he is not looking forward to having to find new space with such short notice and that it will be a struggle trying to move, renovate and setup his shop elsewhere.

The Saltfleet Stoney Creek soccer club expects to have an update early next week for those who have registered in its winter programs.

Players Paradise says it will have a statement and answer questions sometime early next week.

What do think this means for tenants of other clubs and businesses with large spaces as the legalization of cannabis in Canada draws closer?
