The Thrifty Designer was broken into early Friday morning

The Thrifty Designer is the latest victim during a string of break-ins in the International Village BIA in Hamilton.

Store owner Leslie Smith-Aragona received a call around 2:40 am on Friday after the sensors on the front door of the store and motion sensors within the store had gone off.

When Smith-Aragona arrived at the store, police informed her that it had been broken into. The lock to the front door was removed to gain access to the store.

“My whole cash register had been removed with a float of $75 plus about $8 from selling buttons to support 541 Barton Eatery,” said Smith-Aragona.

Luckily, there was no other damage to the store and nothing else was taken.

“This was a very upsetting situation, but I’ve had to focus on what had not happened… any additional damage and theft.”

The Thrifty Designer is the latest store to be broken into in the International Village area after Cafe Oranje, Vagabond Saints and VintageSoulGeek were all broken into back in November.

VintageSoulGeek owner Nik Bulajic posted a video to social media in response to the string of break-ins in the area.

Each of the separate incidents were similar, with damage to the front door in order to gain entry and then the cash in the register being taken. Some stores also experienced additional damage and other items taken.

If you have any information on any of these incidents, please contact Hamilton Police at 905-546-4925 or visit your nearest police station.
