Two historic Gore Park properties up for lease

Two historic Gore Park properties are looking for new life.

After decades of neglect, new owner Malcolm Silver is excited to bring the pre-confederation buildings back to their former glory.

The two buildings are side by side, located in Gore Park at 62 & 64 King Street E.

Built in 1850 & 1845 respectively, the two structures are older than Canada has been a country. Both buildings are currently vacant and seeking to be part of the revival Hamilton is currently undergoing.

At 62 King Street E, the main floor was home to a large beer hall known as Chester’s Beers of the World. This famous watering hole was famed for its extensive beer menu that included a catalogue of over 200 bottles from breweries big and small around the world.

Included on the main floor is a large kitchen with existing gas lines and power supply that’s perfect for another restaurant to take over.

The second floor was home to a night club known as Bumpers, which has been closed for decades.

A walkthrough of the former discotheque reveals a mirrored dance floor, private seating area, retro Edison-bulb lighting and a DJ booth with equipment straight out of the 80s.

With a dedicated, decorated staircase adjacent to the entrance of the Chester’s, access to this second floor is easy and opens it up to a lot of potential uses.

The remaining two floors above went through a multitude of owners and uses, but has generally stayed as creative studio space.

Immediately beside this property is 64 King Street E, whose large main floor lobby appears perfectly-suited for a boutique hotel or creative offices. The large atrium located in the centre of the building features a huge skylight, bringing in magnificent sunlight that accentuates the exposed-brick walls.

Former apartment units on the second and third floors make for some fantastic new office space now.

One of the biggest stunners we came across was a loft on the forth story that looks like it came straight out of a top-rated Airbnb listing. With old wooden beams, exposed brick, skylights and a view overlooking Gore Park, this is one of the nicest apartments I’ve ever come across in Hamilton.

Of course the loft doesn’t have to remain as an apartment and could instead make for an epic rooftop patio. It sure is exciting to think about all of the potential uses a view like this could have.

Together, the two properties boast an impressive 15,000 square feet that’s well-suited for a hotel, office or creative space. Of that amount, 5850 square feet is ground floor retail and another 3000 could be used as a possible rooftop patio.
