The summer weather’s here and with it comes patio season!

There’s plenty of great patios across Hamilton, but we’ve narrowed them down to what we believe are the absolute best in the city.

Here’s our 2018 list for Hamilton’s 10 best seasonal patios.

NàRoma Pizza Bar

Starting off our list is NàRoma Pizza Bar. This Locke Street restaurant’s patio is perfect for a meal out with family and friends.

The patio offers a great view of Locke Street as it’s elevated enough to give patrons a great vantage point. The tables and chairs are comfortable, making long evenings out sipping wine and eating pizza a relaxing experience. When the sun comes out, there are plenty of patio umbrellas offering shade.

Both comfortable and lively, this patio is great for conversation and good times.

The Powerhouse

The patio at Hamilton’s Powerhouse offers patrons both relaxation and historical charm.

As the Powerhouse was built out of a renovated power station, there are certain cosmetic features that all patio guests get the pleasure of viewing. From large, original windows to beautiful brickwork, the patio’s touch of history is incredibly charming.

The Powerhouse’s patio is best for quaint, relaxed meals. This is a fantastic patio to visit if you want to dampen city noise for the duration of your meal.

The Ship

The Ship knows their patrons love a good patio — that’s why they offer two. Having both a front and back patio gives their guests variety in both seating and atmosphere.

The front patio offers comfortable chairs, umbrellas, and a great view of Augusta Street (home to several other wonderful patios). Patrons can relax and eat their meals all while checking out what’s happening on the popular street.

The back patio offers booths, high tables, and stools. The hanging string lights and vine-covered concrete block wall add to the tranquil ambience of the patio, especially after the sun goes down.

The Ship’s patios are ideal for those looking for a casual atmosphere to grab a burger and beer with friends.

Coach & Lantern Pub

Love architecture and Canadian history? Coach & Lantern’s patio offers that and plenty of character.

The patio sits between two buildings, one of which was built in the late 1700s. Old stone walls and ivy create for a beautiful backdrop to any meal. The tables and chairs are comfortable. The buildings typically give off plenty of shade, but there are umbrellas for when the light shines through.

This cozy patio is absolutely beautiful and should not be missed. If you’re in the Ancaster area, Coach & Lantern is worth the visit.

Moodys

Making full use of their outdoor space, Moodys offers great selection when it comes to their patio. There are three sections to their patio, all suiting different customer’s needs.

Like people watching? Take a table closest to the road to see what’s happening on the street. Like a little more shade and less road noise? A table closer to the front of their building is a great spot for you. Need more shade and or dining with a large group? There’s a spot for you under their newly covered patio.

Whether you like people watching or prefer a more intimate dining experience, Moodys has plenty of patio space for you. Not to mention some incredible pizza and fantastic dishes.

Baranga’s on the Beach

Baranga’s on the Beach is a long time staple in Hamilton’s outdoor dining scene. Only steps away from the beachfront, Baranga’s is known to be a lively place packed full of patrons during the summer months.

Such a large patio space allows for plenty of different seating options. You can go for the traditional tables and chairs accompanied by an umbrella, or take a seat on some extremely comfortable backyard furniture.

If you’re heading down Beach Road this summer, Baranga’s on the Beach is a must visit, especially if you’re looking for something by the water.

The Beverly on Locke

Kick back and relax with family and friends on The Beverly’s patio. The outdoor space, affectionately called Bev’s Backyard, is open, inviting, and newly renovated as of this year.

True to the backyard feel, a large tree creates the perfect canopy of shade for all guests to sit under. The tables are made of sturdy wood, and the red seats add both a pop of colour and some serious style.

Bev’s Backyard is easily one of the best spots in the city to take advantage of summer living. Whether you’re brunching or doing a business meeting over lunch, Bev’s Backyard makes you feel at home.

Aberdeen Tavern

Aberdeen Tavern’s patio makes for a posh outdoor oasis. Filled with fresh greenery, this summer time spot is the perfect place to sit in the lap of luxury.

The furniture is made out of sturdy wrought iron, and the chairs are covered in comfortable black and white cushions. The umbrellas offer plenty of shade for those looking to stay out of the sun.

This patio is made for those who want an airy, comfortable, and quieter outdoor space. Aberdeen Tavern’s patio is ideal for a relaxing dining experience.

Radius

Radius’s patio is one of a kind in the city of Hamilton. The restaurant operates a multi-level patio, spanning from the ground floor all the way to their rooftop.

There’s plenty of seating at their ground floor patio. Whether you prefer a booth, tables and chairs, or sitting right at the bar, there’s something for you. The atmosphere is relaxed and summer ready — the umbrellas, string lights, and waterfall really capture the essence of outdoor living.

The rooftop patio is filled with comfortable backyard furniture and resembles a lounge. Plenty of greenery brightens up the space, while string lights are hung to create a whimsical feeling during nightfall.

Radius’ multi-level patio is perfect for many occasions. Whether you want to eat outside for lunch or lounge with a cocktail in the evening, Radius is undoubtedly one of Hamilton’s finest outdoor experiences.

Jack & Lois

Coming in at our top spot is Jack & Lois. Their patio is by far one of the most coveted summer spots in Hamilton, and rightfully so.

To get to it, you’ll have to walk around the side of the building and enter from Barton Street since you can’t get to it directly through the front door (this adds to its hidden gem status imo).

Jack & Lois’ patio is large enough to offer plenty of space to guests, while small enough to still feel cozy and like it’s ‘your’ spot in the city. The atmosphere is open and inviting; their beach-themed mural adds fun pops of colour against the patio’s wooden fixtures and dark tables and chairs.

One of the coolest parts about Jack & Lois’ patio is their movie nights. Weather permitting, Tuesday nights typically consist of double features projected against the mural. The movies are usually cult classics, but you can expect any genre from comedy to horror.
