FirstOntario Centre will be used as a large-scale COVID-19 vaccine clinic

As Hamilton prepares to widen eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine and accelerate rollout, the city is repurposing FirstOntario Centre to turn it into a large-scale vaccination clinic.
It’s a prime time to use the sizeable space at FirstOntario Centre to host the clinic, as events remain on pause and the venue remains largely empty.
Additionally, the city’s Rosedale Arena will similarly be converted into a large-scale clinic, preparing for forthcoming months of greater numbers of eligible locals who’ll be queuing up to get inoculated.

The announcement was made by Dr. Elizabeth Richardson, Hamilton’s medical officer of health, adding that further details about the large-scale clinics – including when they’re set to open – will be made available in the coming days.
Currently, Hamilton is in the midst of arranging vaccinations for a select number of early priority groups including residents age 85 and up, high-priority healthcare workers, those living and working in the shelter system, and Indigenous adults in higher-risk communities.
Four Health Canada-approved vaccines are currently set to be used in Hamilton, including those made by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and the recently-approved Johnson & Johnson single-shot vaccine.
