When Hamilton’s annual arts and music festival Supercrawl announced that they’d be hosting a physically-distanced series of outdoor concerts atop the York Boulevard Parkade, the lineup for the series hadn’t yet been made public.
But now, Supercrawl has officially announced the bands that will perform as part of this special series; and it’s quite the exciting lineup.
Supercrawl announces a special weekend of music in downtown #HamOnt! A five-concert series of distanced yet intimate performance Sept 24-27 at a temporary open-air venue atop the six-storey municipal parkade at York Boulevard & MacNab Street North. Running September 24th to 27th, the series – which will be limited to 100 audience members per show to maintain physical distancing – begins on the Thursday evening with country singer-songwriter Tim Hicks in a “stripped down” concert event accompanied by Jessica Mitchell.
Then, on Friday night, Tom Wilson’s popular project Lee Harvey Osmond takes the stage, joined by folk-pop musician Evangeline Gentle.
Following that on Saturday – for both a matinee and evening engagement – is renowned Toronto-based choral project Choir! Choir! Choir!, with a special fashion show and drag show to cap off the event.
Finally, wrapping up the series on Sunday for matinee and evening performances is DJ and Juno Award nominee Skratch Bastid, joined by local hip-hop artist LTtheMonk and award-winning beatboxer Hachey the MouthPEACE.
Tickets for each concert event, capped at 100 per show, range from $20 to $60 each and include a non-medical face mask. Attendees will be placed in their own reserved seats two metres apart, and there will also be a licensed bar on site with safety protocols in place.
This concert series is both an exciting and safe return to live performance events, and also a semi-replacement for the 2020 iteration of Supercrawl which, like most other major events, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tickets for all concerts go on sale on Friday, September 4th at 10 am on the Supercrawl website.
