Hamilton actor Nick Cordero on a slow path to recovery from intense battle with COVID-19

Enduring an endless stream of serious complications after contracting COVID-19, Hamilton-born actor Nick Cordero seems to now be on the cautious, gradual path to recovery.
An ongoing series of social media updates by Cordero’s wife, fitness instructor Amanda Kloots, revealed the 41 year-old’s terrifying struggles with the coronavirus, which have resulted in weeks in a coma and on a ventilator in the ICU at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Cordero has been hospitalized since March 31st.
The many devastating complications have included infection in Cordero’s lungs as well as blood clots in his right leg, which resulted in a required amputation of the leg after blood thinners used to address the clots caused internal bleeding. Cordero’s lungs have also seen some severe damage from the infection.
“They look almost like he’s been a smoker for 50 years,” explained Kloots in one of her Instagram updates.
Cordero has now been moved off of a ventilator and received a tracheostomy, which involves creating a hole in a patient’s neck to feed a tube into the windpipe that assists with breathing. According to Kloots, Cordero has been adjusting well to the tracheostomy, though remains in a coma.
Today, though multiple new tests have revealed that Cordero is now negative for COVID-19, the Broadway star and Westdale Secondary School grad still faces an extremely bumpy recovery road ahead.
That said, despite countless curveballs and devastating setbacks, Kloots is remaining positive and not giving up hope, and hundreds of fans and supporters all around the world continue sharing the hashtag #WakeUpNick and sending the family well-wishes.
A GoFundMe page was also established just over two weeks ago in support of Cordero, Kloots, and their 10 month-old son Elvis. The initiative continues to receive donations and has already raised nearly $490,000.
